NANA OBOSOMFOO YAW MENSAH

Nana Yaw Mensah Nana Obosomfoo Yaw Mensah a.k.a. Ayiso was born in 1954 in Takyiman, Brong Ahafo region of Ghana West Africa. He was the third of nine sons to the parents of Nana Okomfo Adwoa Akumsa also known as Asabea, who was a very important Bono-Priestess and Nana Kwame Adduo a Bono-healer.

Nana Mensah started his schooling at Takyiman Methodist School and completed it at Kyekyewere local council middle school in Ashanti region. After school Nana had job at Accra Ghana National Trading Company (GNTC) as salesman for three years and then moved back home to support his mother and practice akom (traditional religion and healing). Nana was instructed in akom drumming skills and over time he became an excellent drummer and was awarded many prizes by the traditional Authority.

Nana learnt how to practice healing from his mother’s elder brother Okomfo Yaw Manu, and junior brother Nana Obosomfoo Kofi Donkor whom Nana Mensah inherited as Obosomfo in August 4th 1995. Nana was trained for the Asuobonten shrine by three Master Bono-Priest healers Nana Kofi Kyereme, Ta Kwasi Obosomfoo, Nana Kwabena Mensah, Ta Mensah Obosomfoo and Nana Kofi Asamadu, Bokyerewa Obosomfoo for almost three years. Nana was married and has thirteen children before he was initiated into Okom as a Traditional Priest.

Nana also trains new priests and priestesses. Many people from abroad visit him for help. Nana is an indigenous farmer producing maize, yam, cassava, plantain and etc to feed his family. He continues the herbal clinic started by Nana Donkor near his house where people from all walks of life visit him for healing.

Apart from healing and others duties, Nana carries his deity Asuobonten which is the brass pan assisted by Nana Okyeame Kofi Obour and the elders for those who come for consultations. Nana works with his female counterpart Nana Okomfo Akua Asantewaa who possesses the same deity and divines through Asuo Yaa. His main working days are Tuesday and Friday. You can also visit Nana Mensah on others days depending on his availabilities at home.
